Drone Photo Awards 2020: these are 20 of the best images made from a drone according to this contest

We really like the footage and photography that is created with drones, a lot. So seeing as the winners of the Drone Photo Awards 2020 have already been known, we could not resist sharing them and continuing to marvel at what is achieved at the right time, the right place, a drone and a more or less long editing time.

This year, in addition, there are some news regarding the 2020 edition . This year's Drone Photo Awards has been included in the Siena International Photo Awards festival and they have included a specific category on COVID19 and how its influence can be seen in cities.

Choosing between drone flights in more than 126 countries

I said, we like photography made with drones like a child a candy and with the rise of professional drones these are increasingly available and in recent years the content that is created with them has grown. A few years ago, for example, we talked about the SkyPixel contest , also a reference in this field and that was born with the support of DJI, one of the main brands of photographic drones.

In reference to the Drone Photo Award 2020, there were a total of nine categories (Wedding, Nature, People, Urban, Animals, Abstract, Sport, Life Under Covid-19 and series). In each one there is a winner, a second prize and a series of "highly recommended", of which we have made a selection.

The photos of the 45 winners in total will be part of the "Above Us Only Sky" exhibition and the Siena Awards Festival that we have previously mentioned and that if there are no changes will be held from October 24 to November 29 of this year . But until that date arrives and to fuel the entertainment at home a little more, here is an aperitif with 20 of the photographs that have been selected among contestants from 126 different countries (without specifying the number of participants).

The photo we have chosen for the cover is also the one that won in this category . Its author explained that sometimes we need to change the perspective to "perceive the force of the structures in a more intense way", seeing the amazing capture that his drone obtained from the Petronas Towers (Kuala Lumpur).

A category similar to the following in which constructions are left aside so that nature and its most faithful inhabitants are the protagonists. In the image by Thomas Vijayan, who has also had photographs selected in other categories, he explains that the abundance of algae in Lake Turkana (Kenya) attracted large numbers of flamingos.

Category "Life under Covid-19"

In this category we find several of those unusual pictures left by the passage of the pandemic around the world , as we saw in Wuhan itself . Highways that are normally saturated with traffic were left empty, like the one captured by Bachir Moukarzel in Dubai and which we show you below. The author in the explanation qualified: "a moment to remember."
