Apple Watch 6 Opened: Smartwatch Hides Surprises Inside
A look under the hood of the Apple Watch Series 6 reveals a positive surprise, especially for those interested in the small smartwatch model.
Once again the colleagues from iFixit pulled out the screwdrivers and other accessories to give us a look behind the scenes of the latest Apple hardware. In this case, there are both models of the new smartwatch: the Apple Watch Series 6 in 40 and 44 mm.
As suspected since the first beta versions of watchOS 7, the new Apple Watch no longer includes the necessary technology for Force Touch. During the teardown, iFixit found that the seal for the pressure-sensitive display was no longer in place. We regret the omission of Force Touch, but this component could easily be destroyed when the watch was repaired. Therefore, iFixit sees the elimination as a positive step overall.
Apple Watch Series 6: Larger batteries for both models
Further investigations also revealed that Apple had slightly enlarged the batteries inside the smartwatch. In the 44 mm model, the battery grew by 3.5 percent to 1.17 Wh, while the battery capacity in the 40 mm version rose by an impressive 8.5 percent to 1.024 Wh.
However, Apple itself still speaks of a battery life of up to 18 hours . However, a look at the overview of the Apple Watch Series 5 shows improvements in the runtimes during training and audio playback. This information has grown by one hour across the board for the Series 6.

The new Apple Watch also charges a little faster. 80 percent should now be achieved after just one hour, with the Series 5 this took 90 minutes. The Series 6 is fully charged after just 1.5 hours, while the predecessor model required 2.5 hours for this, according to Apple.
Further changes were also revealed when looking at the Taptic Engine, which, among other things, draws attention to the notifications on the wrist. According to iFixit, the new component has grown somewhat.This has on the strength of the evidence, for example.
Overall, iFixit also found that the new case has gotten a tiny bit thinner. Instead of 10.74 mm, only 10.4 mm were measured. The missing force-touch seal could have played a large part here.

No one dared to take a closer look inside the new sensor on the underside of the Apple Watch Series 6. According to iFixit, a teardown would only end here in many broken pieces.
For repairability, iFixit gave the Apple Watch Series 6 a total of 6 out of 10 possible points. There were deductions for the use of the special screws and the direct connection of many cable connections with Apple's S6 SiP (System in Package). If a defect occurs here, repairs are extremely time-consuming.
