Look, Apple: This new super smartwatch even detects cold sweat
Fitbit is using IFA 2020 in Berlin to present three new smarter wearables, including two watches and a fitness tracker: the Fitbit Sense, Fitbit Versa 3 and Fitbit Inspire 2. Fitbit is now introducing a small smartwatch revolution with the Sense.
The flagship of the new Fitbit product line is the Fitbit Sense, which, according to the manufacturer, is the first watch to which an electrodermal activity sensor (EDA) is connected. The idea is to compete with the market leaders Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch.
Fitbit Sense: Manages stress by detecting cold sweats
Specifically, this means that you have to place the palm of your hand on the front of the device to detect tiny electrical fluctuations in the level of sweat on your skin. Measuring responses to the EDA can help understand the body's response to stressors and then target stress management.
After these measurements, the Fitbit Sense offers guided mindfulness sessions in the Fitbit app to see how the body reacts during meditation or relaxation. At the end of the session, an AED response graph will appear on the device and in the mobile app to assess progress over time.
But there are also the essential features that are now standard on smartwatches, such as heart rate monitoring, a new EKG2 application and a skin temperature sensor on the wrist.The models only ran in a demo loop and could therefore not be used.
Fitbit promises more than six days of battery life and a free six-month trial period of Fitbit Premium (€ 9.99 / month) to record all data and receive additional information on health and well-being trends, such as heart rate variability (HRV), respiratory rate and SpO2 .
Fitbit says they have developed a new stress management tool. It calculates how the body reacts to stress based on heart rate, sleep, and activity. The condition is graded from one to ten and in turn linked to recommendations for better stress management, such as breathing exercises and other mindfulness exercises.
The Fitbit Sense case is made of a mixture of glass and metal, and the watch is water resistant to 50 meters. The core of the biosensor has been configured to accommodate the largest number of sensors of any Fitbit device while having an attractive design and long battery life.
The AMOLED display has an integrated ambient light sensor to automatically vary the intensity of the screen, which is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.
Fitbit Versa 3 and Fitbit Inspire 2: focus on digital wellness
A few words about the other two products. First up, the Fitbit Versa 3. Fitbit's flagship watch benefits from a fairly incremental hardware and software upgrade. It has a microphone and a speaker that you can use to make and receive calls without having to pick up the connected smartphone.
It is now compatible with the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa and offers GPS. The design has been changed slightly for consistency with the Sense model, both watches are compatible with the same charger.
The Inspire 2 is a classic activity tracker. Its design has been redesigned and its battery life has been increased to around ten days. The most important additions are software with an interface that is supposed to be more intuitive.
The scythe is offered at a price of 329.95 euros. A price that is well below that of the Galaxy Watch 3. The Fitbit Versa 3 is sold for 229.95 euros. There will be many variants with a variety of different bracelets available, each costing between 20 and 30 euros, while the Fitbit Inspire 2 bracelet will sell for 99.95 euros.
