NVIDIA continues to bet heavily on GeForce Now , its video game streaming platform in the cloud. After launching compatibility with Safari on iPhone and iPad through a webapp , the company has decided something similar with Google Chrome on Windows and Mac. GeForce Now is now accessible from the browser , ergo, it is not necessary to download the app as it was until now.
This function, which, by the way, is in beta, is not the only interesting novelty that comes to the service, but in version 2.0.27 official support has also been added for Macs with M1 processors . It is true that said app will not be so necessary now that GeForce Now is accessible from the browser, but it never hurts that those who want to have the app installed can have it without problem.
GeForce Now support for the browser doesn't come alone. NVIDIA has implemented a very useful option: bookmarks and shortcuts . On the one hand, when opening a game we can save the URL in the favorites bar, which allowed us to launch it quickly and save us the step of opening the web, searching for it, etc. In fact, it would be possible to create a bookmark folder called "Games" and save them all there.
GeForce Now continues to expand
On the other hand, when selecting the game we want to launch, a button called "Shortcut" will appear. It doesn't appear to us for now, but as explained by NVIDIA, this option allows us to create a direct access to the game directly on our computer's desktop . When we have created it, simply click and the game will launch immediately.
On whether it works with Chromium-based browsers , such as Google Chrome, it seems that for now not. We can play on Google Chrome, but not on the new Microsoft Edge . Also, NVIDIA expressly mentions Google Chrome for Windows and Mac, but makes no mention of Linux, for example. In that sense, they state that "on other platforms [GeForce Now] may work, but they are not supported."
That said, it should be remembered that NVIDIA GeForce Now is a free service, but only half . Free accounts can play in one hour sessions, have standard access, and do not have RTX enabled. Founder accounts, meanwhile, are worth 27.45 euros every six months, have priority access and have ray tracing activated in compatible games.
