The iPhone 13 will have a smaller notch and larger sensors in the Pro's camera, according to Digitimes

We continue with the rumors of the iPhone 13. This time new information comes from the hand of Digitimes that states that we will see a reduced notch, something we have already heard other rumors, and predicts changes in the sensors of the iPhone cameras with surname Pro .

Small changes in design and better performance

True, we have been talking about a possible reduction of the notch since the launch of the iPhone X, although it is now when we have more concrete and tangible information, which, on the other hand, does not mean that it arrives in the final product. According to the Taiwanese publication, the Face ID system will be redesigned, which will reduce the size of the notch .

The Face ID system of the next generation of iPhones will undergo some design changes with the size of the notch at the top of the screen being reduced and its ultra-wide angle lens will be updated from 5P to 6P, sources said.

Currently the True Depth system, which projects and collects the information necessary to carry out authentication via Face ID, relies on several components. According to the information we have, Apple's ability to combine three of them, including the flood illuminator , of considerable size, in a single component would allow reducing the size of the system and, consequently, that of the notch.

This information confirms that published by MacOtakara a few weeks ago. Citing sources in the supply chain, he stated that in this generation we would see a reduction in the size of the notch in part thanks to moving certain sensors towards the upper part of the iPhone body. The well-known leaker Ice Universe has also stated, for its part, that the rumored reduction will come this year.

Both rumors agree that the reduction would come in the vertical dimension , that is, the notch would continue to have the same width, but would occupy less screen area. An improvement that, according to DigiTimes, would be possible thanks to the fact that the new Face ID sensor would be manufactured by Foxconn and LG Innotek, while the front camera would come from O-Film.

At the same time, DigiTimes sources state that the new iPhone 13 will continue to use a 7-component module, although thanks to a larger image sensor the resolution of the captured images will be improved . This improvement, with the information that we currently have, will only reach the iPhone with the Pro surname, while the rest of the range will inherit the image sensor that the iPhone 12 and Pro Max currently use.

The iPhone 13

Everything seems to indicate that, although this is a generation of iPhone with small changes, these will have a significant impact on the design and capabilities of the new iPhone. A generation whose name we still do not know because Apple may decide to skip number 13, but little by little we know in more detail.
