OnePlus Band

January 11th, OnePlus announced the launch of its very first smartband. The unimaginatively named OnePlus Band is currently only available in India, where it will be available at an introductory price of 2,499 rupees (around 28 euros). At first glance, the product seems to be a worthy competitor to the Mi Band 5, the Realme Band and probably also to the upcoming Honor Band 6.

The OnePlus Band, unveiled on January 11th, appears to be a rebranded version of the Oppo Band with minor cosmetic changes. It offers a variety of fitness features, including two of the most desirable features in the post-pandemic era - a heart rate monitor and an SpO2 sensor.

Fitness trackers in comparison

Like most of its competitors, the OnePlus Band has a large 1.1-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 126 x 294 pixels. The rather tiny 100 mAh battery supports Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy and should give the OnePlus Band a battery life of 14 days. OnePlus delivers the tape with a USB-A powered dongle for charging. With the IP68 certification, the OnePlus tape is also waterproof and dustproof.

Equipped with the optical heart rate sensor already mentioned, a 3-axis acceleration sensor, a gyroscope and a Spo2 sensor, the OnePlus Band is able to comprehensively monitor the vital data of its wearers. This includes the number of steps you have taken, the categories you burned and the monitoring of your heart rate in order to track sleep and measure your blood oxygen saturation, among other things.

Fitness enthusiasts on a budget will be pleased that the OnePlus Band supports 13 workout modes, including outdoor running, indoor running, jogging to burn fat, outdoor walking, cycling, rowing, swimming, yoga, and cricket - the latter is an India- specific addition for the cricket mad nation.

Other functions include reading notifications, controlling music playback on the smartphone and of course the ability to accept or reject calls. On selected OnePlus models, the tape also supports synchronization in Zen mode.

To use the OnePlus band, the company suggests downloading the brand new OnePlus Health app from the Google Play Store and installing it. The OnePlus Health app is also based on UI elements and functions from Oppo's existing HeyTap, which I was able to try out in my review of the Oppo Watch .

Color options and availability

The OnePlus band gets three color options; Black, Navy and Tangerine Gray and will be available in India from January 13, 2021. OnePlus hasn't indicated whether they have any plans to bring the OnePlus Band to other markets.

We also don't know whether the OnePlus Band will hit the market as the Oppo Band when it comes to Europe one day. What we do know, however, is that we will receive a test device and will publish a test here on NextPit in the next few days - so stay tuned!
