Honor reported the launch of the Honor View 40 (also known as Honor V40) on January 22, 2021, the company's first smartphone release after give away from Huawei - the former parent company of the Honor brand. Along with the View 40, the company also announced upgrades to its MagicBook series of notebooks and outlined future branding strategy for the company.
In addition to the new and improved products, the company also confirmed its partnerships with leading manufacturers such as AMD, Intel, MediaTek, Micron Technology, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Samsung, SK Hynix and Sony. We already knew this was going to happen and we had outlined it in an earlier report .
Honor View 40: specifications, main features
The Honor V40 is an upper mid-range smartphone that is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chipset. This 5G-ready chipset has four fast ARM Cortex-A77 cores and four energy-saving Cortex-A55 cores together with the 9-core ARM Mali-G77 MC9 GPU. The chip is manufactured in a 7nm manufacturing process - similar to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 series.
The phone has a 6.72-inch 10-bit OLED panel that covers the entire DCI-P3 color space. This panel also supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz, which has now almost become the standard for devices from the upper middle class to the high-end range. In particular, the panel also offers HDR10 support and a 300Hz touch response rate.
Even if it no longer belongs to Huawei, the Honor V40 still has some Huawei characteristics. A 50 MP RYYB sensor is used in the main camera, which is supposed to deliver great low-light photos. The device has two other cameras, including an 8 MP ultra wide-angle lens and a 2 MP depth sensor. The handset also supports laser auto focus. The device also has two selfie cameras with a combination of 32 MP and 16 MP.
Does the Honor View 40 come with Google services?
At the moment, the Honor View 40 is only available in China, where it doesn't require Google services. The company has not yet confirmed whether the Honor View 40 will be available in other markets and whether it will support Google services. Note that the Chinese version of the phone will continue to run with Honor's Magic UI 4 (which is derived from EMUI).
In China, the Honor View 40 comes in two variants, and the prices are as follows
Honor V40 5G (8 + 128GB) = 3599 yuan (about 456 euros)
Honor V40 5G (8 + 256GB) = 3999 yuan (about 507 euros)
Now that Honor has finally separated from Huawei, it remains to be seen whether the company will actually achieve its goal of shipping 100 million smartphones this year .
