At first glance it looks like a normal bicycle, but inside it hides a small electric motor. The new HPS Domestique is the lightest electric bike, weighing just 8.5 kilograms . This bicycle is the creation of the HPS brand, based in Monaco, and its cost is not exactly cheap. In return we have a bicycle built with German and Swiss components where the design has been taken care of in detail.

Where is the motor and battery hiding? The first component is hidden in the bike's seat tube. We have a small motor of 200 watts and maximum torque of 20 Nm. This motor, designed by professional cyclist Phil Deignan , is in the lower tube of the frame and although it is not among the most powerful, it is enough to provide up to six levels of pedaling assistance .

A camouflaged battery in the shape of a water bottle

The engine is not visible from the outside, but the HPS Domestique also hides the battery. The usual thing is that many designer bikes what they do is increase the thickness of the down tube, but it is not this case. The carbon frame of the HPS Domestique has a tube with a standard thickness and weight, being for all purposes like a normal bicycle.

The solution is quite ingenious: the "water bottle" is actually the battery. It is a 193 Wh battery that promises up to 3 hours of autonomy . The company calls the bicycle system the 'Watt Assist System' and the goal is to replicate the weight of normal bikes. This system, patented by HPS , frees the wheel when the motor is not assisting pedaling. A mechanism that allows a smoother pedaling.

To recharge the battery, the company promises that we will be able to do it in two hours. We do not have data regarding the autonomy in kilometers, but taking into account its size, we would be around 100 kilometers. Its maximum speed is limited, by European legislation, to 25 km / h.

With a body completely made of carbon, the electrical system only contributes 1.5 kilograms compared to the total of 8.5 kg. A minimum weight that integrates completely with the body of the bike, by posing as what it is not.

The HPS Domestique is a high-end bike and as such adds Pirelli's P Zero rubbers, Deda Elementi handlebars and a custom-made design by Campagnolo , one of the most experienced companies.

The lightest commercial electric bicycle is sold in Europe at an official price of 12,000 euros . Additionally, HPS offers a smaller 85 Wh battery for flight use and recharges in one hour.
